The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
